Webex Help & Tutorial

Lesson 16 Chapter 2 Module 2

If you want to try a test meeting Webex has a spot for you to test your system and get everything running. Just go to https://www.webex.com/test-meeting.html.

Step one:

Click on the link above and enter your name and email address. This can be your first name, nickname, or whatever you want people in the class to call you. Then click the join button.

Step two:

This is what you will see on the next page.

This screen is how you get set up for the meeting. If you have a camera on your computer, Don't enable it. It eats up too much bandwidth so just click the dropdown above the preview and select "no video."

Step three:

Next, you will select your audio connection. We suggest selecting "Call Using Computer" this lets you use the internet for your audio. There are other options, to call in, but they are not free. You could be responsible for long distance or other charges. Using your computer will let you use the internet with VOIP technology.

Step four:

Next you will need to select your speakers for audio output & your microphone for audio input. If you have more than one option, choose the preferred device for your sound output, then choose your preferred device for audio input. After you have selected the right devices, click the connect audio button.

You should now be in the meeting with the ability to hear and speak. The first thing you should do after entering the meeting is, MUTE your microphone.

Again we want to preserve bandwidth and we want to preserve the quality of the sound in the meeting. By muting your microphone you will ensure that we don't hear static, dogs barking, phone conversations, or anything else from your location.

To make sure that you are muted, find your name in the participant's panel and make sure the microphone icon is red. You can single click on the icon to toggle it on and off.

We recommend that you use it like a walkie talkie radio. Push the button when you want to talk, then turn it off as soon as you are done talking. This will provide the best audio experience for everyone in the meeting or watching the recording.

You can toggle the audio on and off using the menu at the bottom of your screen as well.

From this menu, you have a few other controls. You can turn on the chat feature by clicking the chat icon like this.

After you click the chat icon, the chat panel will open up near the participant's panel. If you have a need to revisit your audio settings, you can click on the more options icon.

If you click on your audio connection option, you will see the options again.

Here you can turn up your volume or the gain on your microphone. If you click on change settings you can reselect your devices and control your volume & gain. You can even test your audio output to see if you can hear.

While Webex works well with many browsers, we recommend using the latest version of the Chrome browser which you can get for free at https://www.google.com/chrome/

Firefox is also a good browser. It can be downloaded for free at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
